Did you know that on average, Americans are willing to spend 31% extra per week on safe and sustainable food? According to the The Conscious Consumer Study done by GIBBS-rbb, “U.S. households spend an average of $119.30 per week on grocery food, and consumers are willing to pay an additional $37.30 per week, or 31 percent more, on food that is produced in ways that advance the well-being of the planet, humans, and safety of food sources.”
Why Does Beetnik Choose Organic?
Oh lettuce count the ways! (Bad puns are a big part of eating organic, in case you didn’t know!) We’ve always believed that good food comes from quality ingredients, and organic food is the best way to bring safe and sustainable food into our diet. We chose to source the USDA Certified organic ingredients in our frozen meals for the high-quality flavor, the environment, and our health.
No Hormones or Antibiotics in Your Protein
Our grass-fed beef is not only organic, it’s free of any growth hormones or antibiotics. The same goes for our pasture raised chickens. Our cows eat grass, our chickens eat bugs- just the way nature intended! Conventional, grain fed meat is at the highest risk foods for contamination by harmful substances. A large bulk of ingested pesticides come from meat – a whopping 90% of the pesticides Americans consume are from animal protein! That’s a lot!
Avoiding chemicals present in commercially grown food has been one of the driving forces behind our love for organic food. According to Prevention, “More than 600 active chemicals are registered for agricultural use in America, to the tune of billions of pounds annually. The average application equates to about 16 pounds of chemical pesticides per person every year.” Many of these chemicals were approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) before extensive diet testing.
Peace of Mind
When you choose organic, you are voting with your dollar. Purchasing organic food sends the message to large corporations that we need more sustainable farming practices. Knowing that your dollars are going towards better farming practices and organizations that prioritize the health & well-being of their employees, both your conscience and your diet will stay clean. You’ll also notice that our packaging is not only recyclable, it’s actually made of recyclable material!
Genetically engineered food and organisms do not have to be labeled in the United States – so it leaves a big question mark on your grocery list. If you want to avoid GMOs at all costs, choose organic. Organic food must be GMO free, so it’s the only way to ensure your food has not been modified in any way.
