What Is the Difference Between Paleo and Whole30?

Is Paleo the same as Whole30? There is always so much talk about different types of diets that it gets hard to choose which will benefit you the most. The primary difference between the two is that Paleo permits natural sugars like honey and maple syrup while Whole30 does not allow for sugars of any kind.  If you are wondering about other difference between Paleo and Whole30, this article is for you.

What is Paleo?

Paleo is a way of eating which digs deep into man’s history. When you follow a Paleo lifestyle, your diet will be similar to that of our ancient ancestors.

Thousands of years ago, there were no processed foods available. There was an abundance of meat, vegetables, fruits, seeds, and nuts.

Paleo is a low-carb diet that focuses on natural high-protein foods and restricts your intake of processed foods, carbohydrates, dairy and refined sugar. It is often described as a lifetime diet rather than a quick fix, and promotes a healthy and natural way of eating that fuels the body efficiently.

What is Whole30?

Unlike the Paleo way of eating, Whole30 is not designed as a lifetime program. While you can use it several times throughout your life, it is typically used to “reset” healthy eating habits.

If you’ve overindulged at Thanksgiving or you’ve had your hand in the cookie jar too much lately, Whole30 can help you to get back on track.

As its name suggests, Whole30 is a 30-day reset plan that requires you to eliminate specific food groups from your daily diet. These groups include sugar, alcohol, legumes, grains, and MSG.

Although many people do report significant weight loss, the idea behind Whole30 is to identify foods that may be causing problems like indigestion, bloating and mild allergies. By re-introducing food groups slowly after the 30-day period, you can easily single-out and eliminate the foods that could be causing you problems.

Cutting so many food groups out of your diet at once can be a challenge, which is why we designed our organic frozen meals to assist you.

Whole30 and the Paleo Diet – Which is Right for You?

Now that you understand the difference between Whole30 and Paleo, you can best decide which way of eating is right for you. If you are feeling bloated, lethargic and in need of a dietary change, you might want to start with the Whole30 plan. You might consider the move to an all-natural Paleo lifestyle once the 30 days is complete.

When it comes to Whole30 vs. Paleo, there isn’t a winner as both are quite different in their reasoning and approach. However, both advocate choosing a diet that is rich in fresh and natural produce that completely eliminates all processed foods.

Eating organic and non-GMO foods is a philosophy which is close to our hearts at Beetnik. All of our meals are made from organic and fresh produce, from the grass-fed beef in our frozen meals down to the herbs and spices.
