How to Wash Organic Carrots

Posted On: November 11, 2013

We got our hands on some gorgeous purple carrots from Johnson’s Backyard Garden and couldn’t help but spend all day staring at them. Seriously – how beautiful are these carrots?! We chopped them up immediately, but not before we gave them a proper washing.

Do I Need to Peel Organic Carrots?

When you purchase organic vegetables from a farmers market they may not go through a cleaning process, so there tends to be a good layer of dirt on them. However, you don’t need to peel them!

How to Clean Organic Carrots

What you’ll need: carrots, a colander and a dish towel or paper towel

  1. Place your carrots in a colander and turn on the water!
  2. You can use a vegetable brush or a soft bristle brush – but we just used our hands. Rub the earth and any debris off the the carrots
  3. Gently pat the carrots dry
  4. Slice them length wise. No need to peel – we want to preserve that great purple color!
