The best part about having a test kitchen in our home office? Impromptu lunches, of course! Our Chef & CEO whipped up a delicious lunch for us last week: Grass Fed Steak Hoagies with Cheese Sauce! We used a top roast for these photos, but you can easily recreate this sandwich with our Organic NY Strips or Ribeye steaks.
- 2 NY Strips or Ribeye steaks
- 2 large hoagie rolls
- 1/2 green pepper, sliced
- 1/2 onion sliced
- olive oil, salt & pepper to taste
- Cheese Sauce
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 cup grated gruyere or cheddar
Slice the steaks to very thin pieces and season with kosher salt and pepper. Sauté onions and green peppers in olive oil, season and set aside. Add more oil to the pan and quickly cook steak pieces one minute per side.
Melt the butter in a small sauce pan and add flour. Cook for 30 seconds and slowly whisk in the milk and raise the heat to thicken the béchamel. Remove from heat and whisk in the cheese.
Assemble your hoagie and drizzle with your delicious cheese sauce!
