Why You Should Be Eating Wild Caught Salmon

Posted On: February 15, 2016

Like beef, there’s a world of difference between ethically caught salmon and farmed salmon. Why should you choose wild caught over farmed salmon? Let’s find out!

Reason #1: Healthy Skin

Rejoice, salmon fans! Dining on salmon twice a week can lead to a healthy, glowing complexion. The high levels of omega-3s in wild caught salmon reduces inflammation, helping your skin fight off dry skin from the cold outside temperatures.

Reason #2: Cancer Fighting Agents

Recently, scientists have found that the omega-3 fatty acid selectively inhibited the growth of the malignant and pre-malignant cells at doses which did not affect the normal cells. Meaning that products like wild caught fish can help fight diseases like skin cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids, contained in oily fish such as salmon and trout, selectively inhibit growth and induce cell death in early and late-stage oral and skin cancers,” according to new research from scientists at Queen Mary, University of London.

Reason #3: Fight Inflammation

Oily fish, like salmon, is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to help reduce inflammation. Interestingly enough, an imbalance of omega-6 fatty acids leads to a “thirst” for omega-3s. Doctors recommend cutting back on omega-6s (like seeds and vegetable oils) and to add in more fatty fish and walnuts.

Reason #4: Nutritional Content

It’s no secret that wild caught salmon is one healthy protein to keep around. 27 grams of protein packed into 5 oz of fish is nothing to sneeze at! 0 trans fat, 0 carbs and 11 grams of heart healthy fats – we feel healthier just looking at the label!
